Isa sa mga produktong naging mabili sa gitna ng pagkalat ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ay ang alcohol, na nakatutulong para mapuksa ang mga mikrobyo sa balat ng tao.

Pero sa pagitan ng ethyl at isopropyl alcohol – na 2 sa karaniwang uri ng alcohol na makikita sa mga pamilihan – ano ang mas mabisa para sa disinfection?

Kung ang pagiging epektibong disinfectant ang pag-uusapan, pareho lang epekto ng 2 klase ng alcohol, ayon sa public health expert na si Troy Gepte.

“Itong ethyl alcohol [and] isopropyl, they’re about the same,” sabi ni Gepte sa programang “Salamat Dok.”

“Except itong ethyl alcohol, medyo mas nakaka-dry lang siya pero ‘yong iba naglalagay ng mga moisturizer sa solutions nila,” paliwanag ng doktor.

Sa porsiyento ng alcohol solution naman -- na nakikita sa bote ng alcohol product -- inirekomenda ni Gepte ang pagbili ng mga produktong may 70 porsiyentong solution kaysa 40 porsiyento.

“Kasi mas mataas ‘yong effectivity niya against doon sa mga nililinis natin na baka may mikrobyo,” ani Gepte.

Pero binigyang diin ni Gepte na pinakamainam na paraan para makaiwas sa mga virus ay ang paglilinis ng kamay.

“Yong frequent handwashing talaga ang talagang makakatulong sa atin. 'Yong maliit na bagay na paghuhugas ng kamay, malaki ang epekto niya na matatanggal ang mikrobyo sa kamay natin,” aniya.

Ipinaliwanag din ni Gepte na kahit anong sabon – mapa-antibacterial man o hindi – ay nakatutulong sa pagtanggal ng mga mikrobyo sa kamay.

Nagpaalala rin si Gepte sa paghawak sa kung ano-anong mga bagay na maaaring nagtataglay ng mga mikrobyo, gaya ng pera.

“’Yong mga perang papel saka barya... iba-ibang tao ang gumagamit at nakakahawak nito kaya kailangan kapag gumamit tayo nito, hangga’t maaari pagkatapos ay gawin nating ugali na maging malinis talaga sa kamay natin,” aniya.

Sa tala ng Department of Health noong gabi ng Sabado, umabot na sa 111 ang bilang ng mga nagpositibo sa COVID-19 sa Pilipinas.
