MANILA – What is usually found at the bottom of a cooking pot is showcased as an artwork in this year’s Art Fair Philippines.
“Dukot Survival” by Visayan artist Manny Montelibano is made of preserved “kaning tutong” (burnt rice) and is one of the pieces at the exhibition space of art gallery 1335Mabini.
The art installation, which has small plastic human figures inside, costs a whopping P90,000.

“Dukot Survival” was previously on display at the Cycle 003: Balance exhibit in Bacolod, which ran from November 2018 to January 2019.
The burnt rice artwork was described by 1335 Mabini as “a reflection of how people evolve by adapting to the demands of society.”
