MANILA – Filipino designer Joyce Pilarsky broke down after Miss Universe Jamaica Isabel Dalley allegedly refused to wear her creation at the Miss Universe national gift auction fashion show at the Conrad Hotel Monday night.

Pilarsky said she was surprised when she received a call informing her that the gown she designed won't be used for the event.

“I was surprised because I did not sleep. We really worked so hard for that and really gave my love and passion for them. All of sudden they will call me and tell me, ‘I’m sorry. It’s not going to be worn.’ Siyempre for me, I wanted the whole world to see my fashion ‘di ba? Ang sakit,” she said.

Claiming she does not know what really happened, Pilarsky said: “Hindi ko talaga alam. Hindi maaaring hindi magkasya kasi nilagyan ko pa ng allowance yun.”

“I was just sad kasi I really did everything, yung effort namin ng team ko, and to be part of history ng Miss Universe tapos biglang tatawagan ka na hindi masuot. Masakit really. But there is always a reason for everything. I hope na one day, suotin niya. I don’t know where,” she added.

However, Miss Universe creative director Jonas Gaffud clarified Dalley skipped the fashion show because of stomach cramps.

“She’s in her room and we took care of the 85 girls who did the fashion show tonight. When we were fitting pa lang, nahihirapan na siya tumayo so in-excuse na siya. Siya lang naman yung in-excuse na candidate. Sa others, hindi lang nag fit yung ibang mga damit so nagpalit-palit ng mga gowns yung ibang candidates from other designers,” he said.

In fact, Dalley took to Instagram to share a photo confirming that she was indeed feeling under the weather last night.

Despite this, fashion designer Albert Andrada was happy about how the fashion show turned out.

“What I am very happy about is that the show has been very successful. As you see, even the clothes, they were all very beautiful. Talagang you will be proud that these Filipinos created such dresses,” he said.

Commenting on what happened with Dalley, Andrada said: “I know we can’t please everyone. But we tried our best to be appreciated by candidates and by everyone. It’s nobody’s fault. Everything is fine.”
