MANILA - YouTube advertisements drawn from real-life experiences were among the most popular in the Philippines in the first six months of 2018.
The top 10 on the YouTube Ads Leaderboard from January to June 2018 were chosen based on how they "resonated the most" with the audience, Google Philippines said.
Romance or "kilig" was the most popular theme for the leading ads, with Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion's on-screen reunion for McDonald's Philippines topping the list with over 4 million views.
"I think it comes from the fact that the story is authentic... it makes you see the power of this tandem," Cholo Perreras, marketing manager for McDonald’s Philippines, told ABS-CBN News.

Jollibee's ads were also anchored on real-life experiences such as "Signs," a story of a teenage girl looking for love, which placed second.
"We followed the principle which is anchoring on powerful truths...it could be your sister, it could be your friend, it could be you. We wanted to feel as authentic as possible," said Arline Adeva, Jollibee's AVP for Brand Communications, Public Relations and Digital.

Nestle Philippines made it to the top 10 with its "Cerelac Let’s Eat, Bulilit!" ad.

Jollibee's "Status", "Homecoming", and "Alex Wassabi for Jolly Crispy Fries" placed 4th, 5th and 6th, respectively.
Their overwhelming 12 million consolidated views translated to "record-breaking sales" for the fast-food company, Adeva said, without revealing the actual numbers.

Ambi Pur made it to the top 10 for the first time with its ad that featured Kris Aquino.
"We needed to drive interest for what seems to be an uninteresting category. KCAP (Kris Cojuanco Aquino Productions) was the perfect partner for Ambi Pur," said Arthur Peña, country media manager of P&G.
No. 9: "Heart to Heart with Kris: Entry #37 Stuck In Traffic with the Aquinos" by P&G
McDonald's also bagged the 10th spot with its ad "One Sweet Day" featuring Maine Mendoza.
