"Her Locket" dominated at the Sinag Maynila 2024. Ganiel Krishnan, ABS-CBN News

MANILA -- "Her Locket" emerged as the biggest winner of sixth edition of the Sinag Maynila, taking home multiple awards -- including Best Film -- during its Gabi ng Parangal on Sunday at the Manila Metropolitan Theater. 

Making a comeback after a four-year hiatus, Sinag Maynila seeks to celebrate Filipino cinematic excellence.

Directed by JE Tiglao, "Her Locket" won in seven major categories including Best Screenplay, Best Production, Best Cinematography for Jag Concepcion, Best Ensemble Acting, and Best Supporting Actress for Elora Españo. 

Tiglao also received the Best Director award for his work on the film.

The highlight of the night was the Best Actress award, which went to Rebecca Chuaunsu for her stunning performance in "Her Locket."

"'Her Locket' has been in my mind for the past 32 years. Nine years ago, when I applied to be in the directing class of the director Brillante Mendoza … the staff texted me back, giving me five compelling reasons why Direk Brillante has to accept you as a directing student," Chuaunsu said in her speech.

"I said I don't have five reasons -- I have only one compelling reason. If I don't produce my movie, I cannot breathe. So tonight, I can finally breathe," she added.

Aside from the full-length film category, short films and documentaries also shined during the ceremony. The winners for the short film category included:

- 3rd Best Short Film: Ang Maniniyot ni Papa Jesus

- 2nd Best Short Film: Bisan Abo Mabilin  

- 1st Best Short Film: As the Moth Flies 

In the documentary category, INO took home the Best Documentary award, while two Jury Prizes were awarded to Pag-Ibig ang Mananaig and Ghost of Kalantiaw.
