A team from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) had recommended canceling the 2017 deal with the Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) for the conservation of 2,700 hectares of forested land in Rizal province due to a supposed unconstitutional provision in the agreement.
DENR Calabarzon regional director Nilo Tamoria noted that portions of the Masungi Geopark overlap with areas covered by previously issued proclamations and an ancestral domain title. He told the panel that there was “no complete staff” in drafting the deal.
