MANILA – Erik Santos was full of emotions as he accepted the recognition bestowed upon him on “ASAP” for his contributions to Filipino music.

And he certainly had a long list of people to thank, but it didn’t end without expressing his sincerest gratitude to Angeline Quinto, who was once rumored to be his girlfriend.

Before closing his speech, Santos turned to Quinto and said: “Angeline, you’re my singing partner. Medyo malungkot ako dahil wala ka sa tribute na ito pero alam mo iyan, napakalaking bahagi ka ng aking karera.”

But it was what followed that had the studio audience erupting in cheers, with “ASAP” singers even teasing Ogie Alcasid that he was teary eyed over what Santos told Quinto next.

Continuing his speech, Santos said: “Angeline, thank you so much. I love you.”

While Santos was singing, the cameras kept on focusing on Quinto, who was loudly cheering for him. She was even caught applauding Santos profusely at the end of his number.

According to Santos, he is honored to be recognized on “ASAP” where he actually began his career.

“Alam niyo po mga Kapamilya, isa pong nakalaking karangalan para sa akin ang ma-recognize ng 'ASAP; dito po sa exact place kung saan ako nagsimula at kung saan ako nanalo. I started in a singing competition which is 'Star in a Million' back in 2003. Dito po sa 'ASAP' 'yun. 'ASAP' po talaga ang nagluwal sa akin,” he said.

“After almost 15 years in the business, masasabi ko po na 'yung end goal po pala ng lahat ng sumasali or produkto po ng mga singing contests na katulad ko ay hindi lang po para manalo but to be able to sing songs that will capture and touch the hearts of many people,” he added.

Santos then shared his award not only to his fellow singers but also to the Filipino composers who tirelessly write OPM.
