MANILA -- December Avenue is the country's most streamed artist on Spotify for 2019 --the first time a Filipino act has topped the streaming service's annual list, it was revealed Wednesday.

The local band, best for known for hit songs like "Huling Sandali," took the crown, ahead of global pop stars like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, who placed second and third, respectively.

Ben&Ben, another Filipino artist, came in fourth, while the fifth most-listened to act of the year was Ariana Grande.

This is an amazing feat from December Avenue, who last year did not even make the Top 5 rankings. They were only listed on the most streamed local artists for 2018, in second.

The results were no doubt helped by the success of their team-up with Moira dela Torre, "Kung 'Di Rin Lang Ikaw," which was the most popular track of 2019, topping I Belong to the Zoo's "Sana"

In the local rankings, December Avenue and Ben&Ben were followed by Dela Torre, This Band, and I Belong to the Zoo.

For the global rankings, the most streamed artist for the year was Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, and Bad Bunny. You can check out the full results below:
