MANILA, Philippines — Froilan Canlas, a music teacher and singer from Camarines Sur, is moving on to the semifinals of "Tawag ng Tanghalan."

He earned his fifth straight win on Saturday, garnering an average score of 95.2 percent from the judges for his cover of Tony Bennett's "The Shadow of Your Smile" to defeat daily challenger Michael Ryan Romero.

Canlas received an automatic spot in the next round with the victory.

Romero received 91.6 percent for his performance of Barry Manilow's "Mandy."

Canlas joined "Tawag ng Tanghalan" to help out his widowed mother. He will return to the "It's Showtime" stage on Monday as he looks to add to his winnings of P135,000.
