When Ai Ai delas Alas was at the peak of her film career, her hospital room would be filled with flowers from well-wishers whenever she fell ill and be confined.

Now that’s no longer the case, the comedienne candidly shared in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“Fake friends are like shadows. They follow you in the sun but leave you in the dark,” went a quote delas Alas shared to her 700,000 followers.

Delas Alas captioned the quote with her realization about “buhay showbiz,” in the context of knowing who within industry can be considered a true friend.

“Naalala ko and natatawa ako sa buhay . . . After ‘Tanging Ina’ (thank you, Star Cinema), pag na hospitalize ako noon — kasi madalas ako hikain — grabe punong-puno ang room ko ng flowers and fruits, parang sumakabilang buhay na ako,” she wrote.

‘Ang Tanging Ina’ spawned several sequels, including this Metro Manila Film Festival entry in 2010. Star Cinema

Delas Alas was referring to her 2003 comedy film “Ang Tanging Ina,” which was for a time the highest grossing Philippine film until its record was surpassed in 2006.

“Ngayon, bilang mo nalang [ang] mga totoong nagmamahal, ang nagpapadala ng flowers. Hindi ako nagrereklamo. Na-realize ko lang ang buhay ay nakakatawa. Sigurado ako, pag blockbuster ang ‘Sons’ and ‘Feelinials’ — which I claim — napakadami ko na namang friends and flowers,” she said.

The screen veteran did not give further details, but did share, in subsequent posts, photos of flowers she received from friends and colleagues.

Delas Alas has not specified the reason behind her hospitalization, but she appears to be recovering well going by photos of her mingling with visitors, as well as her pet dog. She said she is expected to be discharged on Thursday.
