MANILA (3rd UPDATE) – Isabel Granada, who shot to fame as a child and teen star in the 1980s, passed away Saturday night in Doha. She was 41.

Geryk Genasky Aguas, Granada’s former husband who spoke from Qatar where Granada was confined for more than a week, confirmed the news in a report on dzMM Sunday morning, Manila time.

The actress died at Hamad General Hospital in Doha, where she was rushed after she collapsed at a fan meet-and-greet in the same city on October 25.

The condition that led to her collapse was described as a brain hemorrhage indicating aneurysm, which in turn affected her heart.

Aguas said Granada was declared brain-dead by doctors on October 27. She never woke up from her coma.

"Iyong heart niya, nag-clog na po lahat kaninang mga 6:30 (p.m.) po siguro. Hindi ko na po naisip iyong oras, 6:30 (p.m.) to 6:45 (p.m.) mga ganun," Aguas told ABS-CBN News, referring to the time in Doha.

"Pero on record po, she was declared brain-dead since October 27. Since then, machine na lang po talaga ang nagki-keep ng kanyang heartbeat, heart rate, at mga medication."

Aguas plans to return to Manila on Sunday with Granada's mother, Guapa Castro-Granada, and Hubert, Aguas and Granada's son.

Arnel Cowley, the actress' husband, will stay in Doha to coordinate the repatriation of Granada's remains.

Granada started in show business in the 1980s, gaining fame as a teen star when she joined the popular TV show “That’s Entertainment.”

She then went on to work on numerous television and movie projects.

Some of her movies include “Bakit Madalas ang Tibok ng Puso” (1986), “Shake Rattle and Roll 2” (1990), “Chickboys” (1994), “Ligaya ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin” (1997), and “Hubad sa Ilalim ng Buwan” (1999) among others.

She also appeared on some ABS-CBN shows such as “Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka," "Got to Believe," "Wansapanataym," "Maalaala Mo Kaya" and "It's Showtime."

Her last project with the Kapamilya network was “A Love to Last,” where she played the role of Cris, who is Anton Noble’s (Ian Veneracion) friend.

Granada was also a recording artist. She released three albums in 1990, 1998 and 2000, and has staged a number of concerts. — With a report from Maxxy Santiago, ABS-CBN News
