MANILA -- Actor-model Daniel Matsunaga sent many hearts aflutter when he graced the recent launch of Avon’s Pink Light Night Run and Walk.

Yet, Matsunaga’s right foot was in pain. He was carefully walking slowly, even if he was wearing leather shoes with socks to match his pink long sleeves and dark blazer.

Admittedly, Matsunaga broke his right toe from playing football the previous week. A professional football player in his native Brazil, he had to be rushed to the hospital where his foot was treated. The doctor told him his foot will heal in two to three weeks.

“It may look funny that we are talking about a run and I have a broken toe right now,” he rued. “I’m very, very glad to join Avon in this cause. This is actually my second year in this project. Last year, it was so much fun. We were at the Quezon Memorial Circle and there were so many people screaming, hugging, kissing, dancing onstage and joined us. We even had fireworks.”

This time, the Pink Light Night Run and Walk will be at the Filinvest Alabang Grounds on October 19.

“Even if my foot will not be totally healed yet, I will still participate and maybe just walk,” Matsunaga assured. “We are doing this to fight breast cancer and create awareness.”

Matsunaga was visibly absent during the recent ABS-CBN Ball at Shangri-La at The Fort. He disclosed that he really didn’t attend since he hosted and participated in a fun run in Naga.

“I was working,” he said. “I couldn’t really attend the ball. The activity in Naga was booked a long time ago and I confirmed. Then, the schedule for the ABS-CBN Ball came after.”

The actor disclosed he has not given his nod to a new teleserye yet, as he had not received the right offer for a drama project. At the moment, he is hosting “Kabuhayang Swak na Swak” on ABS-CBN, which airs on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He is also busy with his personal business.

His dad, Paulo, arrived recently, to stay here in Manila for a vacation. His mom, Geralda, now lives with his sister Vanessa, who is married and stays in Southwoods. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Guilherme, lives with him in Quezon City.

Matsunaga also talked about his girlfriend of two years, Carolina Pizarek, who is also a celebrity in Poland.

“The last time she came here was two months ago,” he shared. At that time, the girl was seen on “Minute To Win It,” where Matsunaga appeared as a celebrity player.

“She’s in Guatemala now,” he said of his girlfriend. “We maintain a long distance relationship, but we manage to still stay strong for two years now. It’s basically trust and God must be there in the middle of your relationship.”

Time management is very important to both of them. “We make ourselves comfortable in our own space,” Matsunaga said. “We also talk to each other every day. She is a celebrity in Poland. I just pray a lot and that she’s going to be the one (for me).”
