MANILA - "Crazy Rich Asians" made box-office history in the Philippines by recording the highest opening weekend for a foreign romantic comedy of all time, raking in a whopping P82.7 million.

To celebrate, Kevin Kwan, who wrote the book the movie is based on, took to Instagram to let his Pinoy fans, whom he has called his "superfans" in one of his interviews, know how much he's grateful.

"Thank you for supporting my books from the very beginning!" he told Filipino moviegoers. "Mahal ko kayo!!!"

He accompanied his thank you message with a photo of Kris Aquino, who played a small but important role in the movie, and of Nico Santos, a US-based Filipino actor also included in the cast.

"Crazy Rich Asians" premiered in the Philippines last August 22 to positive reviews from critics and fans.

Its P82.7-million five-day haul is the biggest for a Warner Bros. Pictures release this year.
