MANILA — (UPDATED) Actor Gerald Anderson has finally broken his silence on the end of his three-year relationship with actress Bea Alonzo, who earlier said he had not accorded her a formal breakup and only “started not talking to me.”

"Siguro, ang nangyari, just like any relationship, you have those moments where you have that fight, after fight after fight after fight. But you have that one big fight na doon niyo nailabas lahat ng emotions and lahat ng feelings," he told ABS-CBN News’ Ganiel Krishnan on Monday.

"Doon din 'yung realization na hindi na siya masyadong healthy, and we're just hurting each other. Iyon, umabot sa point na ayawan na talaga. And then after that, you have to stay strong and disciplined para umiwas muna sa communication. Siguro, that moment, or that fight, happened about four weeks ago, mga isang buwan na siguro," he said.

Addressing persistent speculation that a third party was involved, Anderson answered: "Walang outside force, walang ibang tao ang naging dahilan ng breakup. Para sa akin, it's always been our personal issues, things that we... Things inside our relationship [that caused the breakup]."

When asked directly whether their fellow Star Magic artist Julia Barretto was a factor in the separation, Anderson said, "No one else was the reason, the cause of the breakup."

Anderson’s ties with Barretto, his leading lady in the romance film “Between Maybes,” became the subject of speculation in mid-July, when Alonzo hinted of infidelity in her relationship with an Instagram post about having had “enough.”

Alonzo’s visible Instagram activities, including liking posts alleging an affair between Barretto and Anderson, led to the onscreen partners becoming the target of criticisms and allegations of cheating.

While Barretto’s mother Marjorie and sister Dani have already denied that she was involved in the breakup, the actress has notably remained tight-lipped amid the accusations.
