The death of his mother was hard to accept, as was the fact that his father had fallen sick, too. Needless to say, that last year was a trying one for Jon Lucas, but by the end of it he was smiling again.
The young actor, who is also a member of the "It's Showtime" boy group Hashtags, knew that life began to turn around following the birth of his baby son, Brycen, back in November.
Friday afternoon was the first time he acknowledged that he is now a dad, admitting to ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe that he's tired of "hiding."
He also confirmed that he and the mother are married.
"Panahon na para magpakatotoo. Ayaw ko nang nagtatago," he said at a press conference for his new movie, "Dito Lang Ako."
Lucas had this revitalized air about him as he continued to talk about how his son is his "happy pill" and "inspiration" -- his mood far different from when he was speaking of his loss last year.
Memories of his mom passing remain fresh in his mind, and he shared that this was the main reason he decided to take a leave of absence from "It's Showtime" and his group, downplaying rumors that it was because he had gotten his partner pregnant.
The painful experience gave him a new perspective in life, Lucas explained, adding that he does not want to regret not spending quality time with his own father, who had fallen sick, too.
Despite this heartache, Lucas smiled when prodded about how his life changed since the birth of his baby.
