MANILA (UPDATE) – Toni Gonzaga said her heart breaks for ABS-CBN employees laid off from work after the network's franchise bid was denied, but said she respects the decision of the House of Representatives committee "with all humility."

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Gonzaga said it is very painful for her every time she learns of a colleague being retrenched.

“Everyday ang sakit mag bukas ng viber dahil nagpapaalam na lahat ng mga katrabaho namin samin,” she said.

Gonzaga then called out those who made this unfortunate thing to happen, saying: “You may have the power now but it will not be forever.”

“Sa lahat ng nasa posisyon ngayon, hindi namin makakalimutan ang ginawa nyo sa mga trabahador ng ABSCBN,” she said.

“Just like the positions of the people in power today, what we are going through will not last forever. Troubles come to pass, they don’t stay,” Gonzaga added.

Gonzaga, however, clarified that her post “is not putting blame on people in position.”

"This is to remind our kapamilyas, there is hope. There’s still tomorrow. We will not forget what the people who have power did to us and we respect their decision with all humility,” she said.

“This is a reminder to us that no matter who is in position. Jesus is still the King of Kings."

As with many other Kapamilyas, Gonzaga said she will “continue to stand up for our company who gave us so many opportunities to help our families.”

She said she will continue to keep her faith that the Lord “will sustain us during these trying times.”

“I believe that no matter who the president is, JESUS is still KING and He is the name above ALL names. Lord yakapin mo po lahat ng mga kapamilya namin na nawalan, nasasaktan at nanghihina,” she said.

Gonzaga and her sister Alex were among the celebrities who rallied with employees of ABS-CBN during a noise barrage protest on Saturday.

Last July 15, ABS-CBN Corp. announced that it would cease the operations of some of its businesses and lay off workers effective August 31, 2020.

In a statement 5 days after the House committee on legislative franchises denied the media and entertainment company a new 25-year franchise, the network said retrenching workers was the "only way to ensure the continued employment" of the rest of its employees.

ABS-CBN did not give a figure on how many would be laid off.

However, it said that the company would be "paying out separation and retirement benefits and providing job placement programs."
