MANILA - It had to end at some point.

A teen singer from Bulacan defeated eight-time defending champion Jennie Gabriel with her booming rendition of Yeng Constantino's "Ikaw." Adelene Rabulan, who lives in Calumpit, scored 94.2 percent from the judges.

Gabriel, who was gunning to become the first contestant to win nine straight, bowed to Rabulan after her "tired" performance of Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time." Her score was not revealed.

Gabriel, who endeared herself to Filipinos with her spot-on voice impersonation of actress Angel Locsin, will return to the "It's Showtime" stage for the third semifinals of the singing contest, having already secured an automatic spot by scoring five straight wins.

Rabulan will return on Friday. She will attempt to join Gabriel and the only other semifinalist, Baclaran-born Rufino Robles.
