MANILA – The new onscreen partnership of Elmo Magalona and Janella Salvador does not seem to be a problem at all for the actor’s real-life girlfriend, actress Janine Gutierrez.

In an interview with entertainment site Push, Magalona said he is fortunate that Gutierrez supports his endeavors even after he transferred to ABS-CBN.

"She's really happy for me. I'm really happy that she's supportive of our show and same, I'm supportive of her projects too. I'm glad she has projects," he said.

In fact, Magalona said Gutierrez also watches “Born For You” when her schedule permits.

"'Yung napanood niyang scene was Kevin's concert in Japan and then parang the last scene was pinakita 'yung clip ni Kevin and Sam, pinakita 'yung picture nila together. She said. 'I'm not gonna lie. Kinilig ako sa inyo.' So yeah it really works," he shared.

Magalona said he is just overwhelmed that his first show in ABS-CBN has been receiving good reviews.

"Hopefully after we keep unfolding the story of ‘Born For You,’ the story of Kevin and Sam, hopefully the people still get the kilig," he said.

Magalona said it actually helps their show that he and Salvador are musically inclined in real life.

"It helps because [my character is] really close to me in real life and I just try my best na mapakita ko 'yung character ni Kevin as much as I can," he said.

The pilot episode of the Dreamscape-produced "Born for You," according to Kantar Media, scored a national television rating of 17.1 percent, or more than seven percentage points higher than rival show, GMA-7's "Juan Happy Love Story."

Apart from the ratings win, the debut episode's official hashtag #BFYTheRedString also topped local trends on Twitter while it aired.

Directed by Onat Diaz, "Born for You" tells the story of young aspiring musicians who are "destined" to meet each other.
