When the controversy surrounding the breakup of Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin erupted in early 2016, their common close friend and co-worker, actress-host Kris Aquino, was decidedly "Team Angel."

This was Aquino's candid revelation Monday, in a huddle with reporters shortly after the media launch of "I Love You, Hater," her comeback film under Star Cinema.

Aquino was sharing examples of how she has been re-connecting with friends in showbiz, as she slowly transitions back to mainstream after successfully establishing her eponymous production company focusing on digital content.

"I owe Luis an apology, kasi nag-Team Angel ako," she offered.

Manzano and Locsin were a couple until 2009, got back together in 2014, but broke up again in 2016. In January of that year, a tearful Locsin said in a televised interview that she and Manzano were trying to fix their relationship, but gave no further details.

By July 2016, Manzano started sharing photos with actress Jessy Mendiola, confirming their romance. Responding to allegations that his relationships with Locsin and Mendiola overlapped, Manzano belatedly revealed he had separated from Locsin in January 2016, or five months before he and Mendiola became officially a couple in June that year.

Aquino formerly worked with Manzano in the talent search "Pilipinas Got Talent," where she was a judge, while he was a host. They were also business partners in a taxi fleet.

"Luis and I had a really good talk, because — siyempre hindi niyo maaalis, babae ako, 'di ba, and si Angel also is a very special part of my life. I was instrumental sa pagbabalikan nila," Aquino said.

The former "Kris TV" host was referring to a November 2013 episode of the show where she teased Locsin about possibly getting back together with Manzano, after the actress's fresh breakup, at the time, with football star Phil Younghusband.

Aquino explained: "Luis made me realize that in every love story, there is his version and her version, and both can be happy with other people, and in a better place with other people. Ang gusto ko is both of them did not make me choose kung sino lang ipi-friend ko, so I'm so grateful to them."

Locsin is now in a relationship with film producer Neil Arce, while Manzano and Mendiola are approaching their second year as a couple.
