MANILA -- A few days before she resumes taping for "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano," Angel Aquino has made her own stand against the proposed anti-terrorism bill. Beyond tagging the #junkterrorbill, the veteran actress zeroed in on its chilling effects on creative freedom.

“Maraming natatakot na artists because this is closer to home," Aquino told ABS-CBN News. “The vagueness of the definition of the crime of terrorism in this bill is prone to abuse. Magdadalawang isip kami sa paggawa o pagtanggap ng mga proyekto that might be labelled as inciting to terrorism. Ang laki ang epekto n'yan sa aming craft because that is our expression, to incite emotions. Halimbawang ma-label kami as a terrorist, the consequences are terrifying, kaya kinukwestyon namin, we want it reviewed.”

Now on quarantine before her five-week locked-in taping for "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano" starting June 15, Aquino has found time to support an online discussion about the dangers of the 2020 Anti-Terrorist Act with Senators Risa Hontiveros and Francis Pangilinan and fellow artists Bart Guingona and Jasmine Curtis Smith.

Aquino and Guingona are active members of the Free the Artist Movement which has made a stand on many national issues.

Aquino insists that art and its social responsibility should not be compromised at this time. “Some provisions of the bill will prevent us artists from performing our roles as mirrors of society, as truth tellers, as thought provokers. Our art is a powerful tool to provoke reflection and action kaya tutol kami sa anti-terrorism bill,” she said.

Aquino is set to take a rapid COPVID-19 test this weekend before she resumes work with Coco Martin, Lorna Tolentino and other stars of "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano."
