With its international screenings in full swing, Star Cinema's "Kasal" entered the top 20 in United States box office over the last weekend of May, according to a report published on the New York Times.

On Instagram, "Kasal" lead star Bea Alonzo shared screenshots of the Associated Press report, which details the Memorial Day weekend box office charts in US and Canadian theaters, as compiled by comScore.

Topping that list, which covers May 25-28 screenings, was the latest "Star Wars" spinoff, "Solo," with over $103 million; "Deadpool 2" with $53.8 million; and "Avengers: Infinity War" with $22.4 million.

The Star Cinema movie's gross in the same time frame, of $329,153 from just 57 locations, was enough to rank it 19 overall in the list of weekend top earners.

The North America performance of "Kasal," from that weekend alone, translates to an additional P17.3 million to the previously announced P100 million gross as of May 28.

"Kasal," directed by Ruel Bayani and also starring Paulo Avelino and Derek Ramsay, was released as part of Star Cinema's 25th anniversary celebration.

Its story follows a public school teacher, Lia (Alonzo), as she navigates the world of politics after getting engaged with Philip (Avelino), who is running for mayor in Cebu.

Their relationship is shaken, however, with the return of Lia's ex-boyfriend, Wado (Ramsay), whose determination to woo her back borders on obsession and threatens to unveil past secrets.
