MANILA — A celebrity auction that aims to raise funds for coronavirus mass testing for underprivileged communities opened strong on Monday, as it raised P700,000 within just hours.

Shop & Share — organized by Kapamilya stars Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo, and Dimples Romana — went live with its first batch of stars' pre-owned items at 6 p.m.

Several items for immediate purchase — like Locsin's and Curtis' luxury bags, shoes, and accessories — were sold out before the day's end.

Shop & Share is poised to raise millions of pesos, with active auctions fetching bids as high as P150,000 each, as of writing.

A second batch of items will be announced soon, organizers said.

Shop & Share, which was first done in 2009 in response to the Ondoy calamity, was re-launched to purchase COVID-19 test kits to render free testing in poor communities.

"With what we are able to raise, it is our aim to cover the expense for testing kits to the underprivileged who are affected by this global crisis," the group said.

"We pursue this mission humbly, with compassion and kindness in hopes of aiding the government in increasing testing for COVID-19 in our own little way."
