He loves singing, there's absolutely no doubt in his mind. The problem, Jaycer Garay explained, was that he never quite found the genre that fits his voice: rock, reggae, ballad. Nothing.

That is, until he came across a viral video of Russian singer Vitas, whose flamboyance and eccentric songs that once enamored a Chinese audience became an inspiration of his.

Garay brought this confidence to his audition for "Idol Philippines," performing "Opera #2" to the bewilderment of the judges.

Of the 4 on the panel, only James Reid knew Vitas and he was seen tapping and warning Vice Ganda and the others that the song, which started off with a really low pitch, would eventually go high.

Unfortunately for Garay, while the judges saw a bit of potential in his voice, they were in agreement that he was perhaps not the type of performer that they were looking for.

"It was very entertaining but that's just not the sound that I'm looking for," Reid told Garay.

He got 4 nos.

Hosted by Billy Crawford, "Idol Philippines" airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
