MANILA -Batangas native Pauline Agupitan is moving on to the semifinals of "Tawag ng Tanghalan" after she defended her title on Tuesday with a soaring rendition of Whitney Houston's classic ballad "I Have Nothing."

The 16-year-old Agupitan scored 97 percent from the judges, beating Cebu's Larra Sumabal by more than five points. Sumabal sang Carol Banawa's "Hanggang May Kailanman."

This is Agupitan's second time to join the amateur singing contest.

She will return to the "It's Showtime" on Wednesday in a bid to notch her six straight win. Agupitan is the fifth contestant to secure a spot in the semifinals, which will happen on June 8.
