MANILA – Vilma Santos admitted it was not easy working with her son Luis Manzano in the 2009 drama film “In My Life.”

Santos made the revelation on Sunday during the second episode of Toni Gonzaga’s new online show “I Feel U,” which also featured Manzano as guest co-host.

“Mas mahirap nung kasama ko 'yung anak ko kasi parang gusto mo laging kailangan perfect 'yung gagawin niya. Ako naman, pinipigilan ko 'yung sarili ko,” she said.

Santos shared that their director Olivia Lamasan kept reminding her that she could not coach Manzano in any of his scenes.

“Kinakausap ako ni Inang, ‘Huwag ka makikialam.’ Kasi gusto ko ituro sa kanya, lalo na kapag nagagalit si Inang, the right expressions. So lahat ng ginawa niya doon, kanya 'yun,” she said.

While she watched Manzano’s scenes from the sidelines when they were not acting together, Santos said there was this particular scene that she couldn’t be in the same room as the rest of the cast.

“That time [may eksena na] nung nasa coffin siya, hindi ko magawa. Lumabas ako. Ayaw ko makita 'yung anak ko. Nagshu-shooting sila, wala ako, nasa labas ako kasi ayaw ko makita. Kaya nung close up ko, wala na si Lucky doon,” she said.

But more than seeing his son thrive in his own career, Santos said it’s her biggest fulfillment as a mom to see her children grow up as good-hearted persons.

“Ang responsibilidad ng isang ina ay walang katapusan. Ang biggest fulfillment nito, na-bless ako ng Panginoon ng dalawang anak na galing sa akin mismo,” she said.

“Makita ko lang sila na lalaki ng maayos at productive, God-loving persons, magiging maganda ang mga buhay nila, siguro 'yun na ang masasabi kong fulfilled ako as a mom,” she added.

Aside from Manzano, Santos has another son, Ryan, with Senator Ralph Recto.
