Richard Yap, who rose to fame with his starring role in the 2012 hit series "Be Careful with My Heart," was among the celebrities who lost their respective bids in the midterm election.

Yap (PDP-Laban) was running against reelectionist Raul del Mar (LP), who was seeking a third and final term as representative of the 1st district of Cebu City.

Based on the unofficial, partial results as of 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, Yap landed in second in the 4-way race with 81,167 votes, behind Del Mar, who was the overwhelming victor with 134,816 votes.

The numbers were from the 748 of 759 clustered precincts (98.55 percent total) tallied.

On Facebook, Yap described his loss as "disappointing."

"I am just sad that I was not given the chance to make my plans and dreams for Cebu a reality," he wrote.

He added: "My hope is that you have at least known me even for a short period of time that I have made my life public because of my wish to serve the Cebuanos.

"Our fight for the city doesn’t end here. Let us continue to stand in our principles and our unwavering support to transform Cebu as a city we can be more proud of."

Yap's campaign revolved around his promise of "change," telling ABS-CBN News in a previous interview: "It's time that somebody else comes in who is not a traditional politician, who knows how to run a business and who feels that we need change."

Yap also had the backing of his co-stars in "Be Careful with My Heart" in his bid for a congressional seat.

Other notable showbiz names in the local level who lost were Edu Manzano and ER Ejercito.

Some of the celebrity winners include couple Lucy Torres-Gomez and Richard Gomez, Lani Mercado, and Vico Sotto, son of screen veterans Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes.
