MANILA (UPDATE)—Screen veteran Edu Manzano was trailing in the race for San Juan congressman, based on partial and unofficial results of election returns on Monday night.

The actor-host (PMP) was trailed Ronny Zamora (PDP-Laban).

Reelectionist Zamora had 34,331 votes, while Manzano had 22,858.

Manzano's bid to return to politics, after serving as vice-mayor of Makati from 1998 to 2001, came on the heels of a high-profile stint as the villain in the top-rating primetime series "Ang Probinsyano."

His role as president Cabrera — who died on the eve of the campaign period — was seen as a boon to his political comeback, as it also came with the endorsement of "Teleserye King" Coco Martin.

But Manzano's bid has been marred by a disqualification case from a division of the Commission on Elections over his citizenship — a decision whose timing he called "very suspect."
