MANILA — Over the three years since its original release, "I'm Drunk, I Love You" has remained a memorable film to many fans, with conversations about its story of unrequited love regularly making the rounds on social media.

In fact, with its free, full-movie release on YouTube amid the coronavirus lockdown, the film by JP Habac has easily drawn a million views and has ranked among the top trending videos on the platform.

The film's enduring appeal came up Wednesday during a virtual roundtable held by Lockdown Cinema Club, an online fundraiser for film workers affected by the coronavirus crisis.

The April 30 episode has as guests Habac, as well as cast members of "I'm Drunk, I Love You," including lead star Maja Salvador.

"Iba talaga 'pag ganoon ang story," she said, when asked for her thoughts on why "I'm Drunk, I Love You" continues to be popular.

"Iba talaga 'yung ibinigay ni Direk JP sa pelikula. Kuwento naman din kasi ng lahat ang 'I'm Drunk, I Love You.' Meron talaga sa buhay natin na pinagdaanan natin ang lahat ng characters."

The 2017 film follows the story of college best friends Carson (Salvador) and Dio (Paulo Avelino), who go on a last vacation before their graduation. The trip becomes an opportunity for Carson to confront her long-hidden feelings for Dio.

"Siguro kahit kailan mo pa siya ipalabas, kahit paulit-ulit mo siyang ipalabas, meron at merong makaka-relate," Salvador said.

A question from one fan asked Salvador whether she would change how the story ended. She had a quick and sure answer.

"Kung paano natapos, iyon talaga," she said. "Isang malaking dahilan ng pagtanggap ng 'I'm Drunk, I Love You' ay dahil hindi siya nagtapos na mag-end kami together."

"Realidad. Kasi may parte sa buhay natin na may ganoon kang kuwento," Salvador said.

The roundtable did not touch on the previously announced sequel, which was said to continue Carson and Dio's story, still under the direction of Habac.
