MANILA — The pilot episode of the “Sino Ang May Sala? Mea Culpa” topped Twitter trends on Monday, as it unraveled a crime that threatens to derail the dreams of new lawyers.

The Dreamscape production opened with the 2014 release of the results of the Philippine Bar Examination, introducing six principal characters who each, save for one, pass the test.

To celebrate, the group of friends went on a road trip to Baguio. What started as a fun-filled adventure, however, spiraled into a nightmare as their car hit a pedestrian.

Armed with their knowledge of the law, the friends weighed the chances of them being implicated in the victim’s death. With emotions running high, they left the decision of whether to get rid of the body, to a vote.

Juris (Bela Padilla) and Gaylord (Sandino Martin) were against the idea; Bogs (Ketchup Eusebio) abstained; while Drei (Tony Labrusca), Lolita (Ivana Alawi), and Greco (Kit Thompson) voted for it.

“Majority rules,” Greco said, setting into motion the crime drama that has been teased in trailer leading up to the series’ premiere.

As seen in previews, the victim had stolen a baby from a hospital. The newborn survived the accident, prompting the guilt-ridden Juris to take it in as her own. Unknown to the group, the baby wasn’t orphaned; the actual mother, Fina (Jodi Sta. Maria), has launched a desperate search for her lost child.

By the time “Sino Ang May Sala” concluded its pilot, its official hashtag ranked as the number one most talked about topic on Twitter, with many viewers praising the episode’s pacing, as well as the portrayal of the diverse characters.
