MANILA — Six years since its original airing, "The Legal Wife" topped Twitter trends anew as its rerun aired the now-iconic confrontation of its lead characters.

The hit ABS-CBN drama returned as part of the network's temporary TV programming during the coronavirus quarantine, which has halted its current entertainment productions.

In the April 14 episode of the series, which was condensed for its Kapamilya Gold run, Monica (Angel Locsin) finally confirmed her suspicions as she witnessed first-hand the affair of her husband Adrian (Jericho Rosales) with her best friend Nicole (Maja Salvador).

Whereas in the original run, Monica's confrontation with Nicole and her initial discovery of the affair were episodes apart, in the compressed version, the memorable scene dubbed "The Royal Rumble" was also shown in the same episode.

In that scene, an enraged Monica attacks Nicole, who admits to being consumed by envy after feeling unwanted and unloved most of her life.

The violent confrontation proved to be impactful now as it was then when it originally aired in 2014, going by reactions to it on social media.

In fact, on Tuesday afternoon, "The Legal Wife" became a top trending topic on Twitter, with viewers praising the portrayals of Locsin and Salvador.
