Sixteen years after it premiered, Taiwanese TV drama "Meteor Garden" is set for a reboot, according to the show's creator.

Angie Chai announced on Tuesday that the show's new version will be a "fuller — and flashier — adaptation of the books," a report by the Strait Times said.

The show, based on the Japanese comic series "Boys Over Flowers," launched actors Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu and Van Ness Wu to superstardom as the group F4 across Asia.

The report added that the reboot will be made for 720 million New Taiwan dollars ($23.74 million), or 15 million New Taiwan dollars per episode. That budget is 30 times larger than its 2001 predecessor.
