MANILA — Jerrold Tarog, the director of Star Cinema's film adaptation of "Darna," has confirmed another member of the cast of the superhero flick aside from its titular actress Jane de Leon.

The "Heneral Luna" filmmaker spoke at length about his latest project via #KuwentuhanLang, a fundraiser that aims to help film industry workers whose livelihood have been affected by the pandemic.

The program, spearheaded by Cinema '76 in collaboration with Lockdown Cinema Club, interviews filmmakers on their body of work through Facebook Live.

Tarog revealed that "Darna" had 16 shooting days prior to the Luzon-wide quarantine, and was due to film a big action scene.

Questions from viewers touched on other aspects of the film, including de Leon's successful audition and the coming-of-age take on the pop culture icon.

Tarog was asked, too, about actors who will be joining de Leon in the big-budget project.

"Iyan 'yung naka-NDA (non-disclosure agreement)," he said. "Alam ko may plan 'yung marketing for announcing the cast, so ayoko muna sila unahan."

He did, however, confirm a recent report that Paulo Avelino, Tarog's star in the historical biopic "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral," is part of the cast of "Darna."

"Lumabas na 'yung si Paulo ay kasama sa cast, totoo 'yun," Tarog said, referring to an Instagram post from Avelino's manager Leo Dominguez.

"Marami pang actors na kasama. Hintayin na lang natin 'yung marketing, kasi baka masira ko 'yung plano nila!" he added.

Darna is one of many characters by the late "komiks" master Mars Ravelo, alongside other superheroes like Captain Barbell and Lastikman who each had their comics series that also became film and TV hits.

Asked whether fans of Darna can expect future appearances from those superheroes that would form a "cinematic universe," Tarog smiled as he opted to skip the topic.

"'Yung near future na lang ang pag-usapan natin kasi in the far, far future pa 'yan. Tapusin muna natin 'yung unang Darna, then let's kung ano ang mangyari after," he said.
