Matt Evans said he learned to appreciate more the sacrifices his mother made in raising him after portraying a gay character in the afternoon drama "The Greatest Love."

In the teleserye, Evans plays Andrei, Gloria's (Sylvia Sanchez) son who looks up to her as an inspiration. His only wish is for his mother to fully accept him for who he is.

He said that depicting the character helped him understand the stories his real mother would tell him about the hardships, without going into details, she went through when she was bringing him up.

He also described his family's situation as tricky as he and his siblings all have different fathers. "Ngayon ko lang talaga naa-absorb lahat," he said.

Evans also admitted that he values his wife, Katrina Farinas, more because of the lessons he got from the series. He talked about how he always made it a point to try and bring Farinas and his children on the set of "The Greatest Love" so that he could spend more time with them.

Evans was one of the guests of Wednesday's "Tonight with Boy Abunda." He made an appearance on the late night talk show to promote "The Greatest Love," which is set to conclude on April 24.
