MANILA – Singer-songwriter Rico Blanco took to social media to call out artists and managers who do not honor their work commitments.

Without mentioning names, the former Rivermaya frontman expressed his disappointment over acts that ditch “small gigs” when they are given offers to perform in bigger shows.

“Listen, artists and managers. When you confirm a gig, no matter how small, you have a responsibility to honor your commitment even if another gig comes along later on,” he said.

“It’s a very small scene – ditching a small gig for a bigger one is very unprofessional and makes you look really cheap,” he added.

Blanco, who has been in the industry for more than two decades, went on to recall the moments he gave up bigger opportunities because he already said yes to another gig.

“I gave up the opportunity of touring the US and UK and recording with Wheatus in ’05 to come home and do one SEA Games gig,” he recalled.

“It was painfully hard to fathom and accept, but I did anyway. I have not flaked on a single gig/guesting for 26 years and counting. It’s about principles.”
