MANILA — Angel Locsin publicly said sorry Wednesday over what she described as a "mortal sin" of once politically endorsing Senator Koko Pimentel, amid the lawmaker's controversial quarantine breach that has sparked outrage online.

The actress and philanthropist, who has been spearheading relief and fundraising efforts for vulnerable sectors, initially opted for a tongue-in-cheek response to Pimentel's actions that were admonished by the Makati Medical Center.

Pimentel drew criticism over his entry to the hospital's delivery room complex on March 24 to accompany his pregnant wife, Kath. The lawmaker had been a person under investigation (PUI) for possible infection of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which meant he should have been under self-quarantine under government guidelines.

Pimentel confirmed testing positive for COVID-19 while inside Makati Medical Center. The hospital denounced Pimentel's "irresponsible and reckless action," which "unduly exposed health workers to possible infection."

On Twitter, Locsin replied to an article about the incident in a playful manner, tagging an influencer, Cat Arambulo, who similarly became the target of criticisms in relation to the COVID-19 crisis.

Arambulo earlier apologized for what has been described insensitive comments about Filipinos who could not afford to stay home, as the Luzon-wide quarantine threatened to cost them their daily income.

"Calling @catarambulo_com where are youuuu?" Locsin wrote with heart emojis — a tweet fans took as a teasing remark about Pimentel breaking his PUI quarantine period.

Turning serious, Locsin said she regrets endorsing Pimentel for senator in the 2007 elections.

"Yes. Super," she answered one follower, who asked whether she now regrets campaigning for him. "Mortal sin. Patawarin niyo po ako bilang ex-husband po siya ng pinsan ko."

Locsin was referring to beauty queen Jewel Lobaton.

When another fan asked Locsin to promise she wouldn't repeat endorsing Pimentel, the actress pointed out: "Naka-ilang eleksyon na rin naman pong hindi naulit."
