MANILA -- "Honor Thy Father," which stars John Lloyd Cruz, was named best film at the 2018 European Philippine International Film Festival (EPIFF) held in Florence, Italy.

Erik Matti was judged best director for the same film.

Tommy Abuel took the best actor prize for his performance in the movie "Dagsin," while Ces Quesada was best actress for "Imbisibol."

On Facebook, Quesada, who is now part of the afternoon series "Hanggang Saan," thanked EPIFF for the recognition. "I am truly honored and grateful. Mabuhay!" she wrote.

The films were screened at the historical Cinema della Compagnia of Cavour Street from March 7-8.

The EPIFF was launched by Filipino-Italian actor-director Ruben Maria Soriquez with other Italian filmmakers.

Soriquez is known for his role in the series "Dolce Amore" with Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano. He was also part of Star Cinema's hit film "Unexpectedly Yours."
