MANILA -- Gabriel "Gab" Valenciano and estranged wife Tricia Centenera are now in good terms once again, after they realized that they could not throw away a good friendship.

Valenciano made the announcement in an interview on the sidelines of a press conference for ABS-CBN's upcoming talent show "I Can Do That," which will premiere on March 11.

"We are not the best of friends yet but we are going towards a good friendship. Kasi kahit paano di kami dumaan sa stage na patayan na talaga na 'I hate you, I never want to see you again.' Siyempre kapag galit ka may mga nasasabi ka but at the end of the day ay may pinagsamahan kami at minahal ko din siya," Valenciano told ABS-CBN News and other reporters on Thursday.

In the interview, Gab also opened up on what went wrong with their relationship, confirming the statement of his father, Gary Valenciano, that he was just "trying to keep up with the Joneses" when he decided to tie the knot.

"I believe in my heart that I don't think I was emotionally, mentally prepared for something like that because nasa US pa ako noon, I was alone for two and half years. So there's that sense of parang it's time na kasi everybody also was getting married, parang it's season of marriages. I was turning 30 next year so parang for me it was like parang lahat they are getting married na parang may ganoong factor. But one thing is for sure is I don't regret it," the young Valenciano said.

Asked about Centenera's statement that he cheated on her, Valenciano said: "All I can say that I had my fair share of mistakes, I had my fair share of shortcomings and pinag-usapan din namin 'yon. All I can say is that I'm trying to leave it as 2016. Parang kumbaga 2017 is a brand new year."
