Regis, who was based then in the United States, underwent surgery that risked affecting her voice, she recalled in an interview on “Tonight With Boy Abunda” that aired Tuesday.

A patient who had undergone the same still had no voice after six months, she said. But the decision was easy for Regis: Giving up her instrument was worth it, if it meant she could live on for her child.
