MANILA — (2nd UPDATE) “Rated K” host Korina Sanchez is now a first-time mother after welcoming recently a pair of twins with her husband, senatorial candidate Mar Roxas.

Sanchez, 54, and Roxas, 61, shared the news on Thursday.

On Instagram, Sanchez shared a photo of the twins’ feet, with the caption: “I think if you believe hard enough, the miracle you most want can come true. Announcing the arrival of our little boy and little girl.

“We’re thinking of names. Any suggestions? Jack and Jill? Sonny and Cher? MariKor and KoriMar? Daniel and Kathryn? Did you ever think it could still happen for me? I never stopped believing.”

In a statement to ABS-CBN News, the couple confirmed that the twins were “born by surrogacy from our embryos.”

“The little boy arrived first at 5 pounds 4 ounces and one and a half hours later, his fraternal twin sister arrived at 4 pounds 12 ounces. They are both perfectly healthy,” they added.

The announcement came days after the couple stirred speculation about a possible addition to their family, with Sanchez sharing a photo of her browsing sleeping items for infants, and with Roxas taking a break from his campaign trail.

Roxas, one of two Otso Diretso candidates in the top 15 of pre-election surveys, recently flew to Pennsylvania to join Sanchez for a “happy event.”

“It’s a very private and a very important matter na family [related],” his campaign chief, Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice, earlier told ABS-CBN News.

Meeting their twin children had been a long anticipated family milestone for the couple. Sanchez and Roxas, who got married in October 2009, have made no secret of “trying very hard” to have a baby.

“I think it’s going to take some work, maybe even a miracle. But we’re looking forward to it. Hopefully it’s going to happen soon. Girl or boy? Any,” Sanchez said in a 2011 interview.

“Mar and I are taking this ‘project’ seriously and we are working hard at it,” she told entertainment columnist Ricky Lo also that year.

In their statement on Thursday, Sanchez and Roxas referred to the arrival of their newborn twins as a “miracle” after nearly a decade of waiting.

“Sa wakas, nandito na ang matagal na naming pinagdasal. Akala namin hindi na mangyayari. After years of working on our baby project, ito na ang himala galing Langit.

“We cherish this moment and thank God for His grace of allowing us to complete our family. Ang mother abalang-abala with feeding two hungry babies every two hours, while ang doting father remains speechless,” they said.

Roxas has a 25-year-old son, Paolo, with former beauty queen Maricar Zaldarriaga.

The senatorial hopeful is expected to be back in Manila in time for the second ABS-CBN “Harapan” debates with other senatorial candidates on Sunday.
