MANILA -- Iza Calzado was unable to control her emotions when she received her Best Actress trophy at the Star Awards for Movies awards night on Sunday for her critically acclaimed performance in “Bliss.”

Speaking to ABS-CBN News after the event, Calzado explained that she waited 16 long years for the Philippine Movie Press Club to recognize her since she grew up watching Star Awards.

“I was emotional because it’s my dad’s turf. Actually, for the longest time, lagi kong iniisip na kung saan pa naman pinakamaraming trabaho 'yung tatay ko, wala akong natatanggap. But you know, of course, that’s the way it is and I have to accept that. So I always tease them na kailan kaya ako magkaka-award,” she said.

Calzado, however, believes that all good things come at the right time.

What makes the award more special, Calzado said, is the fact that it was given to her in her home country.

“I may have won in another country but siyempre I was really hoping that I could also possibly win here in our own country kasi iba kapag pinarangalan ka ng mga kasama mo sa industriya, lalo na ng press. Your relationship with the press people, it’s really a lot of personal relationships. You give love, you hope they give love in return. They have been very supportive of my career. I feel good of course,” she said.

“I would love to. 'Bliss' is the kind of movie I really like. I like offbeat characters and films. But for me, as long as it’s interesting and it challenges me, especially if it’s something I’ve never done, siyempre mae-excite akong gawin,” she said.
