Carl Malone Montecido, known as the blind balladeer from Bacolod City, couldn't hide his emotions after finally nabbing a spot in the semifinals of "Tawag ng Tanghalan."

Montecido was in tears after delivering a spectacular cover of Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up," which gave him his fifth straight win in the singing contest and an automatic place in the next round.

He received 95.2% from the judges, defeating challenger Ronnie Solajo who got 90.8%.

Following his performance, Montecido, who came close to a semifinals berth last year before having his four-day streak snapped, pumped his fists and thanked his parents for their support.

He will return to the "It's Showtime" stage on Monday to compete with the other semifinalists.

Born blind, Montecido said he decided to join "Tawag ng Tanghalan" again as he wants to continue inspiring people with similar physical disabilities.

Many were touched with his story of determination when it was featured in an episode of "Maalaala Mo Kaya." He was also part of the 2010 edition "Pilipinas Got Talent."
