Jex de Castro broke down in tears after he finally secured a spot in the semifinals of "Tawag ng Tanghalan."

De Castro got his fifth straight win in the singing contest with his cover of the inspirational anthem "This Is the Moment." He defeated challenger Janahfe Menguito by five points.

De Castro came close to a semifinals spot back in December, but saw his four-day win streak snapped.

After being revealed as the day's winner, De Castro could not help but turn emotional.

"Masaya lang ako kasi sobra iyong disappointment ko nung unang natalo ako," he said.

"Sobrang saya ko lang. Salamat po for giving me a second chance, for proving myself na kaya ko pang mang-inspire ng tao."

A Viva Artist according to his Instagram profile, De Castro said he first joined "Tawag ng Tanghalan" to help pay for his younger brother's college tuition. He decided to to try once more after getting more encouragement from fans and family.

He will return to the "It's Showtime" stage on Monday.
