The sudden death of film and television director Maryo J. Delos Reyes brought shock to local celebrities on Sunday.

Delos Reyes, who died after suffering a heart attack Saturday night, was just at a press conference a day before for the upcoming wide release of the independent sci-fi film "Instalado."

The beloved director's death was announced by his manager through ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe early Sunday.

Delos Reyes will be remembered, among many of his notable works, by helming the award-winning "Magnifico," the classic coming-of-age film "Bagets" starring Aga Muhlach, and his string of collaborations with Nora Aunor that began with "Annie Batungbakal."

Celebrities including Bela Padilla, Lea Salonga, "Instalado" star Mccoy de Leon, Sarah Lahbati, Alessandra de Rossi, and Ruffa Gutierrez were quick to pay him tribute online.

He was also loved by his co-directors such as Jun Robles Lana and Theodore Boborol, who remembered him as one of the local industry's greatest.
