MANILA - Celebrity businessman Joel Cruz has released a statement on Wednesday regarding his alleged discriminatory treatment of the caregivers of his twins.

In a text message sent to ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual, Cruz said that he was only following the advise of his pediatrician to have him and the nannies wear masks when taking care of his newborn children.

He explained that being born through in vitro fertilization and having never been breastfed, his twins --Prince Harry and Prince Harvey-- have a weaker immune system.

"As a single father na super busy ang schedule sa trabaho, hindi ko kaya mag-alaga mag-isa sa aking mga anak," said Cruz, the owner of fragrance brand Aficionado.

"Ayaw kong maging pabaya sa kanilang lahat at sinusunod ko lang din po ang advise ng pediatrician na mag-mask kami, nurse at mga nanny kapag close contact sa mga bata from birth until two years old."

"...Ang kabutihan po ng paggamit ng mask ay maiwasan ang droplets o mga common organisms at 'yung ang nagiging reverse isolation. Ito po ay protection hindi lang ng mga anak ko kundi pati rin ng mga yayas at kaming lahat nanagsusuot ng mask."

"Panahon din po ngayon ng pabago-bago ng klima kaya dapat lang mag-ingat tayong lahat. Walang discrimination po dito at sa talang buhay ko ay ni-isang tao ay hindi po ako marunong mag-discriminate!"

"Pagmamahal, pag-unawa, pag-asikaso at respeto ang binibigay ko po sa lahat ng tao ganon rin sa aking mga empleyado at mga nanny. Salamat po!" Cruz concluded.

On Wednesday, several netizens accused Cruz of discrimination after seeing a photo of his nannies wearing flu masks and hairnets during the christening of Prince Harry and Prince Harvey.

One netizen claimed that the image made her "feel uncomfortable," and went on to ask whether Cruz was just being protective or that it was "some sort of discrimination."
