MANILA - It’s official: “Beauty and the Bestie” is now the highest-grossing film of all time in the Philippines.

In an interview with Pep published Wednesday, director Wenn Deramas revealed that his 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry overtook the P480-million domestic record set by “A Second Chance.” As of Tuesday night, “Beauty and the Bestie” has earned more than P481 million.

According to Deramas, the number does not yet include the film’s box-office take from international screenings. “Iba pa yung international, e, hindi pa namin binibilang pa 'yun,” he explained.

Globally, “Beauty and the Bestie” has a long way to go before eclipsing the P556 million worldwide record of “A Second Chance,” which starred John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. Star Cinema has yet to release the international box office figures for “Beauty and the Bestie.”

The comedy, top-billed by Vice Ganda and Coco Martin, is still showing in more than 100 cinemas nationwide.

With the success of “Beauty and the Bestie,” Star Cinema maintained its dominance on the list of the top 10 highest grossing Filipino films of all the time. The list also includes “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin” (P456 million), “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy" (P436 million), and "Starting Over Again" (P410 million).

Rounding up the list are “It Takes a Man and a Woman" (P405 million), “My Little Bossings” (P401 million), “Sisterakas” (P393 million), “The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin (P331 million), and “Bride for Rent” (P326 million).

The family comedy “My Little Bossings,” which starred Vic Sotto and Kris Aquino, is the only film on the list that was not produced by Star Cinema.

Asked about the “ticket-swapping” issue that plagued the first few days of the 2015 MMFF, Deramas said. "Ang tanong ko, kung nandadaya, paano? Paano ka nakakadaya na kokontrolin mo ang lahat ng sinehan, e, ang SM and Ayala didiktahan mo?

"That powerful? Napaka-powerful pala namin sa Star Cinema, para sabihin mo na, 'Uy, ito ha ang ibibigay mong ticket. Tsaka ang tanong ko, kapag ba [ikaw] ay bumibili ng panty at brief ang ibinibigay, hindi ka ba magrereklamo?” he quipped.
