MANILA — “ASAP Natin ‘To” is kicking off 2020 — its 25th year on air — with a grand dance festival featuring Sarah Geronimo’s juggernaut hit “Tala.”

The Sunday concert variety show will feature performances of the viral dance craze from across the country, “ASAP Natin ‘To” announced on its social media channels on Friday.

With the hashtag #TalaNation, “ASAP Natin ‘To” has been sharing dance covers from fans of diverse backgrounds: cops, athletes, baristas, teachers, newlyweds, and medical professionals, among others.

Of course, expected to perform live on Sunday is Geronimo herself, who has earlier teased a “2.0” version of “Tala” with the team behind the original choreography, G-Force.

Geronimo had been counting on “Tala” to become a dance craze since its original release in 2016, she recently revealed.

Somehow, three years later, it finally happened, and the fad shows no signs of abating.

From drag performances, TikTok challenges, to Christmas parties, “Tala” became ubiquitous in the latter half of 2019.

But Geronimo is aware of what helped propel the tune to its status.

“Of course, maraming salamat sa LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community kasi sila talaga ‘yung yumakap dito sa awiting ito na ‘Tala,’” she said in December.
