MANILA – The Land Transportation Office has summoned the driver who illegally used the EDSA busway and allegedly tried to run over an enforcer, the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) said on Tuesday.

In a social media post, the SAICT said it encountered a "dangerous and reckless incident involving a driver who defied authority and attempted to endanger the life of one of its operatives" last August 29 around 4:47 p.m. along the EDSA Bus Carousel Lane.

When asked to surrender his driver's license, the driver of a Toyota Hilux pickup refused and tried to flee. After attempting to run over the enforcer, the driver identified himself as "Mayor Perez of Bulacan," the SAICT said.

"This incident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and the protection of SAICT operatives who are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and integrity of the busway system," the transport agency said.

It said it would pursue legal avenues to identify the erring driver and hold him accountable for his actions.

The LTO has identified the plate number of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was directed to appear at the Intelligence and Investigations Division (IID) of the LTO Office on Sept. 4.
