MANILA - From walking 5 kilometers a day to peddle a basket full of banana cue, the husband and wife tandem of Reynante and Raquel Manimtim parlayed their P100 venture into a thriving siomai business.

The Manimtims took out a P25,000 loan from a local bank to buy a motorcycle, which they later converted into a food cart in San Juan, Batangas.

The Manimtim couple now owns a fleet of 11 motorized "Princess Siomai" food carts earning P45,000 a day.

Despite their success Mrs Manimtim said she remains strict with their budget.

(I'm not fond of material things. I put our business first so that it will be stable. When it became stable, that's when we bought what we want like a house and lot.)

They couple also sells siomai in bulk to nearby towns.

"Ngayon nakakakain na kami sa gusto namin kainan, hindi na nagaalala na ang budget namin ay pang lomi, pang turo turo lang," she said.

(Now we can eat what we want without worrying that our budget is only good for lomi or small canteens.)

The couple was recognized as the Regional Awardee for Luzon in the recent Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards 2017 held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
