MANILA -- Inflation for the bottom 30 percent of households based on income quickened to 8.5 percent in the third quarter.

This implies that for the poorest households, inflation is highest in nearly a decade, or since the first 3 months of 2009.

Last October, inflation for the poorest households was at 9.5 percent, the same rate recorded in the previous month. This was more than the double the 3.4 percent annual increase in October 2017.

Inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households uses 2000 as the base year while inflation for all income households uses 2012 as base.
