PAMPANGA -- The casino reportedly owned by gambling tycoon Jack Lam has been shut down as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Officials of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Angeles City Police Office temporarily shut down the main casino and 15 casino rooms in Fontana Leisure Parks and Casino in Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.

According to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, Duterte has ordered the arrest of Lam over bribery and economic sabotage charges.

The casino was also shut down due to lack of permits, legal documents and immigration papers.

Authorities are also investigating illegal gambling operations in the casino following the arrest of 1,300 allegedly undocumented Chinese workers who were working in an illegal online casino in Pampanga.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II claimed the Macau-based Lam tried to pay off PAGCOR chair Andrea Domingo and Immigration officials with millions of pesos for the release of the illegal workers.

Lam reportedly left the country last November 29, Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Antonette Mangrobang said. - with a report from Pauline Manalo, ABS-CBN News
